Welcome to the Student Film Festival Network

This is a forum for Film Festival Organizers to exchange information and build a network in order to create greater exposure for student work. Our companion network is a forum for Film Students at Student Filmmakers.

If you are hosting a partner film festival, please create a group here.

Please use the Forum below to discuss general topics related to film and film festivals, and the your blog to post anything of general interest to the Festival Network Community.

For items specific to your own film festival, please post to discussions and comments within your group.

This is the presentation on How to Create a Film Festival given at EARCOS and the Apple Leadership Summit in Hong Kong. It is meant to be presented in person, but alone it should serve as a useful guideline.

Finally, for useful resources outside this site, please take a look at our links or browse through the library

Phones in remote Washington come at high cost

STEHEKIN, Wash. – This remote outpost in the rugged Cascades is so cut off from the outside world that it has no roads leading to town and little telephone service. The 80-or-so locals relish the isolation and pristine beauty and sell it as an escape to tourists.

So when a telephone company attempted to install basic service for a handful of people who sought it, many longtime residents blasted the idea. Siblings found themselves on opposite sides of the heated dispute. Neighbors shouted… Continue

1963 letter indicates former pope knew of abuse

LOS ANGELES – The head of a Roman Catholic order that specialized in the treatment of pedophile priests visited with then-Pope Paul VI nearly 50 years ago and followed up with a letter recommending the removal of pedophile priests from ministry, according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

In the Aug. 27, 1963, letter, the head of the New Mexico-based Servants of the Holy Paraclete tells the pope he recommends removing pedophile priests from active… Continue

Chili and schoolkids for chic French first lady

WASHINGTON – Forget tea with Michelle Obama. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, on her first trip to Washington as France's first lady instead of as supermodel, visited a school in a poor neighborhood and had lunch at Ben's Chili Bowl.

She was meeting Mrs. Obama later for dinner with their husbands — behind firmly closed doors, leaving the curious guessing about how the glamorous four would get along.

Kids at Washington's Kipp DC charter school were over the moon at their visitor and her entourage… Continue

Obama condemns 'heinous' subway bombings in Russia

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has condemned the rush hour bombings in the Moscow metro, offering his condolences to the Russian people.

In a statement issued by the White House early Monday, the president said the American people stand united with the people of Russia in opposition to violent extremism and "heinous" terrorist attacks.

The blasts came about 30 minutes apart during the morning rush hour, killing at least 37 people and wounding 102.

The head of Russia's main… Continue
